Music Monday: “Misplaced Devotion” by The Dear Hunter

musicmonday

Music Monday is a meme, created by Drew at The Tattooed Book Geek, where I focus on a song I absolutely love and feel needs to be shared.

Song: “Misplaced Devotion”
Artist: The Dear Hunter
Album: The Color Spectrum: Yellow EP (2011)

Lyrics taken from genius.com

[Verse 1]
Hey girl, let’s lose ourselves today
We can go anywhere we need to get away
So say the word and we’ll turn
Around, and leave this place behind

[Chorus]
So come on, you’re never gonna need him
That’s why you’re in my room tonight
So go on, you know you need it
That’s why you’re in my room tonight

[Verse 2]
I knew you’d be coming back to me
I never thought that you’d have the courage to ever leave
And you are better off
Sticking right where you are

[Chorus]
So come on, you’re never gonna need him
That’s why you’re in my room tonight
So go on, you know you need it
That’s why you’re in my room tonight
[x2]

Ohh, ohh, ohh…

[Chorus]
Come on, you’re never gonna need him
That’s why you’re in my room tonight
So go on, you know you need it
That’s why you’re in my room…

After the release of Act III: Life and Death, Casey Crescenzo, the driving force behind The Dear Hunter, decided to create a series of 9 EPs covering the seven colors of the spectrum along with black and white. His goal was to make each EP, with every color consisting of four songs for a total of 36, sound like the color; his work became the Color Spectrum. “Misplaced Devotion” comes from the yellow EP and is powered by a galloping, upbeat pattern that is easy to tap a toe to. The song features Cameron Thorne, lead singer of the defunct band Naïve Thieves, during the second verse, who also created much of the album artwork for the different EPs. A fitting track to listen to during the summer or spring, “Misplaced Devotion” calls back to lemonade in the hot sun, running through sprinklers, and the joy of youth.
